I've been thinking about the company ideas I mentioned the other day. Currently I consider two candidates. But it's not what I want to write about.
I was trying to find the reason why I want to build them and why I want to start a company. Self-analysis is not easy but I think I found the answer.
The reason is: I want to build good software. Each employer I worked for compromised quality for something else, number one being politics. Though I've been creating software for 9 years now, my desire is still far from being met.
That reminds me why Joel Spolsky started his company: he wanted a place he'd like to work in. The question of what software to build was secondary. He wanted to answer the how question first.
I think I'm similar in this regard. I want to build good software in a company I like working for. And maybe the only way to achieve it is to start one.
